We provide inbound-to-plant just in time logistics services for the automotive manufacturing industry.

SUMMARY

The Regional Continuous Improvement Manager is responsible for developing, initiating, leading and driving continuous improvement projects.   This includes process or business changes to reduce operating costs and overseeing project initiation, development, tracking and auditing. Responsible for supporting and/or facilitating key continuous improvement activities, in areas such as; waste reduction, cost savings, production efficiency, maintenance reliability, quality, safety, environmental, people development, business technology and business development initiatives. 

Location: Detroit, MI or Louisville, KY.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works with Operations management, Finance, supervisors, hourly employees and other divisions to develop ideas for improvement and potential solutions.
  • Works with Engineering to evaluate new technologies and processes.
  • Facilitates capacity studies for future growth opportunities as dictated by business.
  • Identifies and facilitates the implementation of process improvements and cost savings opportunities aligned with key business objects.
  • Tracks and measures results of improvement initiatives.
  • Acts as a change agent to identify and drive continuous improvement projects that realize cost savings for the organization.
  • Establishes and implements meaningful metrics to set yield, labor and supply standards; tracks and identifies gaps in performance; explains discrepancies and facilitates system solutions.
  • Oversees project performance and ensures timely completion and achievement of goals.
  • Responsible for developing and leading projects to reduce negative variances.
  • Completes special projects and provides relief supervision, as needed
  • Promote, educate and instill a culture of waste identification and elimination throughout the organization by utilizing Lean Manufacturing concepts and the principles of Kaizen (continuous improvement)
  • Plan and Lead cross-functional teams through Plan, Do, Check, Act / 6Sigma phases of Kaizen, including 6s, Productivity, Quality and Safety focused Kaizen.
  • Lead the development of the Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis (PFEMA) / Control Plan
  • Manage Green Belt Projects, department metrics, Kaizen schedules and document control.
  • Evolve customer complaints and Value Stream constraints into events, initiatives or projects
  • Communicate the goals and objectives of lean activities and assist in using the visual management system to identify abnormalities and apply countermeasures

JOB SKILLS AND SPECIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of industrial engineering principles, required.
  • Demonstrated ability to use Continuous Improvement methods to reduce costs and manage projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement continuous improvement plans, lean manufacturing initiatives, 5S, value stream mapping, statistical process control and six sigma to drive change.
  • Must be highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, VISO, etc.)
  • Strong attention to detail, self-motivation, innovation and ability to operate autonomously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

General Qualities

  • Minimum 3 years of technical writing experience.
  • Passion for designing effective and concise documentation.
  • Proven technical writing skills including new content development.
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety hazard standards (nice to have).
  • Fluent with XML based content management systems.

Education and Experience

  • Technical, Engineering, or Quality Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Lean six sigma – back belt certificate
  • Must be able to read, write and comprehend English
  • A minimum of five (5) of experience in process improvement methodologies in a manufacturing environment, with at least two (2) years of management experience is preferred
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) a plus

  • Environment – Mix between general office and warehouse
  • Physical Requirements (Lifting, standing, walking, etc.) General Office Demands
  • Travel requirement: 25% to 50%, will fluctuate based on projects in portfolio
